“The time will come when science will outstrip imagination”.

JULES GABRIEL VERNE

1828-1905

French geographer and writer, classical author of adventure literature, one of the founders of the science fiction genre.

Writer create more 60 novels, including “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, “In Search of the Castaways”, “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas: A Tour of the Underwater World”, “Around the World in Eighty Days”. The heroes of the novels of Jules Verne reveal all sides of the writer’s outlook. His hero is an educated innovator and inventor. He glorifies science as the greatest power and at the same time understands that the achievements of science and technology enrich the few and do not serve the general prosperity.

In his writings, Verne predicted scientific inventions and discoveries in various fields, including scuba diving, television and video communication, space flights, as well as a plane, a helicopter, a flight into space and the moon, etc. He proposed 108 scientific ideas, which were considered fantastic, but only five of them were actually wrong. One of the miscalculations – a manned flight to the moon on a cannon shell – inspired K.E. Tsiolkovsky on the study of the theory of space flight. According to UNESCO, Jules Verne’s fiction books rank second in translation all over the world.
