Sergius of Radonezh left as precept to his monks “to have spiritual and physical purity and unfeigned love”, “adorn themselves with humility”, “to keep in unity with each other”, “set to nothing the honor and glorious of live, but expect from God the reward of heavenly eternal goodness of pleasure.

SERGIUS OF RADONEZH – hegoumenos Radonezh, all Russia Wonderworker, Monk of the Russian Church, founder of the Trinity Monastery near Moscow, reformer of monasticism in Northern Russia (1314 –1392).

Sergius of Radonezh built the labor community. The Great Teacher was a state, political and public figure who guarded his native land, taking upon his shoulders the responsibility for its fate. No wonder that Sergius of Radonezh was named the Potentate of the Russian Land. He felt a turning point in the history of Russian Land and turned its course in the right direction, taking great responsibility for the outcome of the battle on the Kulikovo Field, blessing Prince Dmitry Donskoy. Sergius of Radonezh was striving for “life in Christ,” introduced the idea and practice of “high living” as a real example of moral perfection, as a kind of universal human ideal. St. Sergius was the patron of true art, Andrei Rublev was his student and close associate.
