A Christian saint who has chosen a special kind of feat – continuous prayer on a “pillar” (open elevated platform, stone, tower, etc.). The reason for the descent of Christian ascetics on the pillar is the desire for solitude for an unceasing prayer connection with God, a way of moving away from the world and concentrating on constant prayer. The era of the pillars began in the 5th century, when St. Simeon the Stylite.
