MOTHER THERESA – Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu – sister of charity, founder of women’s monastic congregation “the Missionaries of Charity”, dedicatedly devoted her life to serving people (1910-1997).

            In ХХ century Anjezë Gonxhe became a symbol of mercy and the power of good. She was a native of Macedonia, began her ministry in India. In 1948 she began to work in the slums of Calcutta. Founded the congregation community       “the Missionaries of Charity”, whose activities are aimed at creating schools, shelters, hospitals for poor and seriously ill people, regardless of their nationality or religion.

Since 1965, the activities of the congregation went beyond the borders of India. Currently, it has more than 400 offices in 111 countries of the world and 700 houses of mercy in 120 countries. In 1979, Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize   “For his work in helping a suffering person.” On September 4, 2016 was canonized.
