Good Shepherd. 2026

The sculpture “The Good Shepherd” embodies one of the earliest and most significant images of Jesus Christ. In the iconography of Christian art (from the 2nd century), the Savior was depicted as a young man with a staff or with a sheep on his shoulders. This image is symbolic throughout. The sacrificial love, care and protection of Christ are generously poured out on those who listen to Him and believe in Him (the flock). Like a shepherd who knows his sheep, He feeds them and gives his life for them. Christ calls Himself the Good Shepherd in the Gospel of John (10:11-14), contrasting Himself with the hired hand who flees at the sight of a wolf.
Christ knows His sheep, and they know His voice. He protects, finds the lost and leads them to “still waters”.

This sculptural image is deep and merciful, depicting the nature of Christ – good and loving, leading the flock to the Light.
