The Last Angel. 2022

The sculpture of the Last Angel is a sign of a terrible time, a period of great harvest, according to their actions, every inhabitant of the Earth will appear before the Higher Will. An angel descended to Earth to announce the final Judgment. He is strict and resolute – the embodiment of the Law, holding a sword and a scroll in his hands. The belt itself is a symbol, it is one of the signs of higher power. Everything has already been determined and the names of those who lived a righteous life, spiritually perfecting themselves, and therefore deserved salvation, are included in the list. Angel has a key to the New World on his belt.
The plot is taken from the Bible. The Last Angel represents retribution for sins, unspirituality, and the beginning of renewed life, destroying the old world with fire and sword in order to completely renew it.
According to the text “Revelation of St. John”, the apocalyptic Angel defeated “the serpent of old, which is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years” (Apoc., 20, 2). “And I saw another strong Angel coming down from heaven, covered with a cloud; over his head was a rainbow, and his face was like the sun, and his feet were like pillars of fire…” (“Revelation of St. John”, ch. 10 .)
At the same time, the ascension of the Angel is a warning about the numerous disasters that will happen on Earth if humanity does not understand all the perniciousness of its selfish and immoral way of life.
The sculpture was created on the basis of Nikolai Roerich’s painting “The Last Angel” of 1942. At the height of the Second World War, the artist had a dream about the Last Angel. The menace of time in the modern world is only increasing…
