“Man is not the center of the universeas once we assumed in our simplicitybut something much more wonderful. He is the arrow pointing the way to the final unification of the world in terms of life.”

PIERRE TEILHARD DE CHARDIN

1881-1955

french philosopher and theologian, Jesuit priest, one of the creators of the noosphere theory.

De Chardin tried to carry out a synthesis of Christian teachings and the theory of cosmic evolution. According to him, evolution is a cosmic, purposeful process in which matter and energy, components of the Universe, are progressively developing in the course of increasing complexity and spirituality. De Chardin saw the process of evolution as a natural preparation for the supernatural order indicated by Jesus Christ. When, in the course of evolution, matter and energy exhaust their full potential for further spiritual development, the convergence of the cosmic natural order and supernatural order will lead to the “Parousia”, the Second Advent of Christ, and “a unique and highest event in which the Historical unites with the Transcendental”. Teilhard de Chardin believed in the power of the union of Christianity and humanism, designed to unite all the people of the planet.

Teilhard de Chardin left neither school nor immediate students, but he founded a new trend in philosophy – Teilhardism, initially condemned, but then integrated into the doctrine of the Catholic Church and became “the most influential theology opposing neotomism.”
