NIELS BOHR – danish theoretical physicist and social scientist, one of the founders of modern physics ( 1885-1962).
Well known as the creator of the first quantum theory of the atom. Niels Bohr was an active participant in the development of the foundations of quantum mechanics. He made a significant contribution to the development of the theory of the atomic nucleus and nuclear reactions, the processes of interaction of elementary particles with an environment.
Bohr provided the physicists with orientation to the study of the controversial aspects of the physical reality of the microworld, formulated the idea of the discreteness of the energy states of atoms, built an atomic model in the light of new ideas, discovered atomic stability conditions, and explained a wide range of phenomenon. In 1913 Bohr created own theory of hydrogen-like atom basing on Rutherford atomic model. It was the first quantum atomic model which has laid the foundation to new era in atomic theory. Theory of Bohr let explain the number difficult questions concerning on atomic structure and other facts; classical physics was unable to do the same thing. N. Bohr also made a great contribution to the development of nuclear physics. He was the author of the theory of compound nucleus and also one of the creators of liquid-drop nuclear model as well as the theory of atomic nuclear fission. In additional Bohr took an active participation on the fight against atomic danger.
