HIPATIA – оutstanding scientist of the Alexandrian school, philosopher, mathematician, astronomer (370(?)-415).
Hypatia is a good example of firmness and devotion to the cause. She was the leader of the Neoplatonist school of philosophy. She considered science as a priority and she believed that the main purpose of any person in world cognition.
Hypatia lectured at the Department of Philosophy at the School of Alexandria. Hypatia usually began her lectures with questions of mathematics, and then continued with its derivatives and other sciences as components of ancient philosophy. Scientists from all corners of the Roman Empire came to pay their respect to the woman philosopher and mathematician in order to join the source of beauty and mind.
Hypatia has invented and perfected scientific instruments: a distiller (a device for obtaining distilled water), a hydrometer (a device for measuring the density of a liquid), an astrolabe (a tool for astronomical measurements), and a planar sphere (plain movable sky map). After her for many centuries in the history of philosophy there were no so famous women who had a great influence on the development of philosophy.
Hypatia is credited an authorship of three treatises on geometry, algebra and astronomy.
