English naturalist, traveler, creator of the theory of evolution and the origin of species through natural selection, founder of Darwinism.

One of the first clearly demonstrated that all living organisms evolve in time and descend from common ancestors. The essence of evolutionary doctrine lies in the following basic principles: all types of living beings inhabiting the Earth have never been created by someone. Having arisen naturally, organic forms slowly and gradually transformed and improved in accordance with the surrounding conditions.

Darwin substantiated the hypothesis of the origin of man from the ape-like ancestor. Darwin called natural selection the main mechanism of evolution. Later he developed the theory of sexual selection. He also owns one of the first generalizing research on the origin of man.

His work on the evolution of living organisms had a great influence on the history of human thought, marked a new era in the development of biology and other sciences.
